United Streaming

August 31st, 2006 by msris in Video · 1 Comment

Bring Videos into your Classroom through your Computer.

With more classrooms being fitted with computers and projectors visual media is becoming more important than ever. The teacher understands that the subject demands a good visual. The visual in the form of a drawing, photo, graph, or chart is just the beginning.

Show them instead of telling them.

Students want to see videos and flash movies showing them what is expected of them or what the concept they are learning is all about. Well, there is a website that is just what the classroom ordered. It’s called United Streaming and comes from the Discovery Channel. The website boasts thousands of videos and video clips. The videos sometimes come with teacher plans to help teach the concept with the video. The videos are easily found by using a search on the site.

It’s free…for 30 days.

The site gives teachers with a valid email account a free 30 day trial. With the reviews so far I suggest that you sign-up today.

March 28th, 2006 by msris in Organize Yourself · No Comments

Wow. Another online tool. First I posted about Writely and now DabbleDB. These tools are becoming more available on the web. DabbleDB is an online database. They say they are a ‘friendly and powerful way to share, manage and explore your information over the web. To find out more, there is a nice online demo to view. This is what the Web 2.0 is all about. So much of the software that we depend on and use everyday will be hosted by websites. Do you think you would use online software? Do you think that this is a good trend for our profession?

I know we all have a calendar. However, this is an online calendar which offers you so much more than a paper one. Some of it’s features:
Share your RSSCalendar in real-time with unlimited users.
Create RSS feeds that show your calendar by day, week, month, or year.
Create calendar feeds that are public, private, or category-based.
Invite individuals/groups to subscribe to your RSSCalendar Channel.
Create events your subscribers can import into MS Outlook (VCal) or Mac (ICal).
I use this and find it very useful. It’s free. Sign-up by clicking here.
